Mainline history: The locomotive Series 1200 of the NS originated from a design by Baldwin and Westinghouse (USA). The locomotives were built by Werkspoor in Amsterdam with parts supplied from America. 25 Locomotives were ordered in 1949. The deliveries of these locomotives commenced in 1952 and the last unit was delivered in 1953. Locomotive were numbered from 1201 to 1214 and were delivered in the turquoise livery, and the units from 1215 to 1225 in burnished red livery. As from 1954 these locomotives were repainted in Berlin blue livery and as from the 1970s they were once again changed into the new house livery of yellow and grey. After having undergone significant upgrades over the years, the last Series 1200 was decommissioned by the NS in 1998. At that time the firm ACTS acquired five of these locomotives.
