Born on January the 10th, 1929 in Turin. He studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan (1949-52)
. In 1960 he met several members of the CoBrA group: Asger Jorn, Pierre Alechinsky and Karel Appel. In 1961 he was in New York, where he met Marcel Duchamp and Hans Hofmann; and then in Paris, where he met Bram van Velde and Samuel Beckett. In 1964 he met David Alfaro Siqueiros in Mexico.
In 1965 he took part in the Salon de Mai, Paris, and won a prize at the IX National Quadrennial of Art in Rome. He also met Graham Sutherland. In 1966 he won the First Prize at the Venice Biennale and the following year a prize at the São Paulo Biennial.
