Born in Caracas in 1530, he was a trusted warrior of the great Cacique Catuche, he took on Cacicazgo at the age of 20, when this cacique died. Known at the time as Guaicaipuro can be found in the documents of the time under the name of Guacaipuro. He was arguably the strongest adversary that the Spanish conquerors found in the newly discovered Venezuelan land (1498). Guaicaipuro ruled Caracas and Teques, exercising direct control over the six villages.
