"Cornelius Jansénius' name is inevitably attached to his major work The Augustinus. But there are more secretive texts which, far from the rumours of the world, never cease to shape it without its knowledge; the “discours de la réformation de l'homme intérieur” is one of them. This preaching, written in 1628 in Latin to establish the Reformation of a Benedictine monastery, reached Rouen in 1646, some eighteen years later, in the French translation by Robert Arnauld d'Andilly by the Pascals, in Rouen.
The Paschalian tradition recounts the implacable and austere themes developed by Jansenius had a decisive influence on the young Pascal's thoughts. He undoubtedly drew from it an essential part of the ruthless rigorism and the subtle, profound and tormented knowledge of the human heart that animates his Apology of the Christian religion better known as the Thoughts"
