Beautiful faience pate terrines, in the shape of a deer, rabbit Partridge.
Made for pate maker Caugant, who from 1927 started selling luxury delicacies in his shop in Brittany. His son, Michel, introduced {and created} the figural pâté shapes to sell the more expensive pâtés, so these are not for making pâté. The paté shapes are very collectible and are so decorative that they are great for presenting with your French Majolica collection.

This early terrine is a two-part shape, handmade, hand painted and then glazed, the earlier of these are excellent in their colouring, and details, the later pieces lost much of their various details. The top goes up toreveal a shallow bowl to fill with paté and serve your guests. Signed by the artist, Michel Caugant, these terrines are highly sought after by collectors, the rabbits, deer and lobsters are rarer shapes and therefore greatly appreciated. Shape made in Portugal, painted in France. {In France there is an annual competition between terrine-collectors to see who possesses the most exquisite pâté shape that year!}

Backstamp: "Cette piece en faiaence échte, een ete entierement realisee a la main." Je vous la propos en exclusevite. MICHEL CAUGANT "this roughly comes down to:" This piece is real faience and was completely handmade. Its exclusivity. "
