F. L. ter Braake (1897 Almelo-1974 Haren) (1897-1974)
58 x 48 cm, in good condition and framed in Amsterdam.
The painter Fredrik Leonard 'Frits' ter Braake was born in Almelo in 1897 and died in 1977 in Groningen. Frits ter Braake was trained as a painter at the Academy in the Hague and lived in Groesbeek, Grave, Amstelveen and Haren, among other places. As a young painter, he was friends with the well-known draughtsmen Jo Spier and Dulmen Krumpelman and also worked with other Groninger painters near Groningen.
Ter Braake painted in a clean, impressionistic The Hague style. In the summer especially, he painted landscapes, village views and ships and water on location. He would often go off with his motorbike or boat. In the winter he would often do still lives at home. Frits also made watercolours and pencil drawings. See also Wikipedia.
