Presentation of Mercator with globe and measuring instrument.
The globe can rotate.
A unique and striking object.
Please examine the photos carefully. The penultimate photograph is a portrait of the artist, the latter is purely informative of another figurine (Sint Antonius abbot) made by him
Below some additional information:
Jan Selen is a former teacher of aesthetics, music and modern languages. As a self-taught artist, he forges, welds and grinds exceptionally beautiful figurines inspired by music, dance, daily life and religion. He also draws on mythology (Pegasus), the Iliad (Hector and Andromache), Flanders (knights), but above all, music and dance were and are his favourite subjects.
For half a century, Jan has been an active hobbyist in wood and ironwork for domestic use. Over the last 20 years, the welded and forged figures have emerged, in which the specific poses play the leading role.
Occasionally, his figurines find their way to private collections.
