POST (1) - Wood - BASIKATE - MITUKU - Congo DRC

Description
POST (1) - Wood - BASIKATE - MITUKU - Congo DRC
mid 20th century - Fair condition, used with visible signs of wear

The Metoko are descendants of Lega migrants who have settled in the region of the middle Lwalaba. Like the Lega, their political and social lives are based on a semi-secret initiatory society, the BUKOTA, which is comparable to the BWAMI of their ancestors.
This sort of sculpture (Kakungu) was used in this cult.
They are also culturally very close to their neighbours, the LENGOLA.
