Janet was one of the pioneers of modern psychotherapy and influenced Freud, Jung and Adler. Firstly he studied psychology and received a doctorate with his work "L'automatisme psychologique : essai de psychologie expérimentale sur les formes inférieurs de l'activité humaine" and is described in the tile of the book as "Professeur agrégé de philosophie au Collège Rollin". From 1882 he turned to medicine and in 1889, at Charcot's invitation, became head of the psychological laboratory at Salpêtrière, where he completed these studies with his dissertation. Rare copy!
