Beautiful promissory note (slave letter), numbered 315, ‘Suriname den 9 July 1863’, issued and signed by the Governor of the Suriname Colony as a compensation for slave owners for the abolition of slavery in 1863.
This promissory note is signed by R.F. van Lansberge and the amount on the note is five hundred guilders Dutch Cour. The amount was paid on 21 October 1863. This was done only a short period after compared to most redeemed notes.
With a gorgeous image of 3 master and many remarks, vignette, dry stamp and other stamps. An interesting historical piece.
Condition: The document is in good condition, though with some folds, as usual, and some pinpricks.
It obviously has signs of ageing.
