Extremely fine and beautiful medal for valour (Carabinieri) in 750/1000 gold, 13.13 grams, with incisions and enamels, dimensions: 3.2 cm x 2.81 cm x 2.1 mm (thickness), bail 3.67 cm. Front: Carabinieri crest with lit grenade and enamelled shield over motto written on ribbon ("NEI SECOLI FEDELE" or loyal through the centuries), engraved back: "Arma dei Carabinieri", with details of the recipient of the medal.
Coat of Arms awarded to the Carabinieri Corps with Decree of the President of the Republic Luigi Einaudi on 27 December 1952, on design by the Heraldry Board.
The Decree of the President of the Republic thus describes the coat of arms:
"Party per bend sinister azure with branch (lion's paw) right or clutching a serpent left proper; sinister half gules with oak eradicated argent. Chief ordinary or party per pale azure. The shield is supported by two carbines and four sabres, all crossed: the sabres' hilts protruding from behind the escutcheon, or above and argent below".
