Reverse: Listening crowd at the gallery of the apse of Sint Servaas basilica, where the elevation of this church to basilica by H.H. Pope John Paul II was proclaimed during his visit on 14 May 1985.

Design of the medal: Albert (Appie) Drielsma (Maastricht, 3 November 1937 – Maastricht, 6 July 2014) was a Dutch sculptor.
