Orthodox cross for procession - alloy of silver, copper and nickel
Ethiopia - first half of the 20th century

This cross belongs to the group of procession crosses used during the religious rites of the Coptic Ethiopian Orthodox Church. It is usually mounted on a long wooden stick, carried by deacons over the heads of the faithful during processions. The two rings at the base are used to hang a cloth reminiscent of that used by Christ during his crucifixion. Made with lost wax casting.
