A very rare selection of the most ancient geometric gold weights. This type was first created around 1400. These weights are difficult to date, though based on the significant wear, the deep patina and the simple shapes, it is reasonable to assume that these are among the most oldest ones.
The first weight, in the upper left, has traces of gold,
Some have been brought to weight by adding lead and sometimes a corner is taken off to reduce the weight (calibrated). The largest one is 21 mm and the smallest 12 mm. The heaviest is 12 grams; the lightest is 3 grams.
The appearance of the weights are made in two different periods. The geometric forms were made between 1400 and 1729, the figurative ones between 1700 and 1900. (T. Garrard)
