Bust of a young woman, possibly the personification of the Harvest, on a black marble column. The hair is partially covered with a cloth and in the pedestal are ears of corn, as a reference to the harvest. The classic face is very detailed and expertly done.
The sculpture is made in the 2nd half of the 19th century, 2 parts marble: neck and head in smooth, refined marble, the breast piece of raw, unfinished marble. The sculptor may have chosen not to finish the lower part (because of the beautiful contrast), or he had not been able to do that.
The sculpture is in good condition; at the rear of the bottom piece there are some small rim damages (see photos). The black marble column is added later on. Dim. bust (W x D x H) approx. 40 x 23 x 63 cm, Column (Diameter x H) approx. 35 x 80 cm. In current condition, previously valued at €3,500. Bidding starts from € 1,100.
Shipping: at the buyer’s costs, to be determined.
