Carla Wiersma followed her training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Utrecht, from 1974 to 1979 (sculpture and ceramics). She took part of solo and group exhibitions in Holland and Belgium.
Wiersma designed many sculptures, commissioned by public and private parties. In public space, she made sculptures for example on a square in a Dutch city, in a hospital and entrances of several companies.
The theme in her bronze work is the recurrent desire of people for security and intimacy. Couples are central in her work. The meaning in Carla’s work is not about intense emotions in life, but about the intensity of the little things and gestures. This gives her sculptures a certain lightness, however the theme that is exposed can be very fundamental.
