Greek Boeotian, around 500 BC - Greece

Banded skyphos decorated on each side with birds in silhouette technique. Both framed by palmettes resting on volutes.
An ivy leaf in the field, further leaves below the handles.
The underside with a dot surrounded by off-centered circles in dilute glaze. The number 1042 written with pencil.

Size: H. 6.2 cm, D. 8.7 cm, W. over handles 13.4 cm

Condition: Intact. Black glaze peeled off in places.

Provenance: French private collection, acquired in 1996. Copy of the invoice joined.
