According to the legend, the Bozo, a people of fishermen in Mali, are the descendants of Faaro, the spirit of water and the creator of the world. Bozo masks and puppets are used to celebrate the myth of these origins, their relation with terrestrial and aquatic animals. Accompanied by songs and drums, the dance of the masked persons alternates with the one of the sogow, which are large masks, sometimes representing mythical animals, sometimes real ones.
