Gorgeous life size head in the style of an Oni - IFE - former Kingdom of Benin-Nigeria
Very beautiful head of an Oni, former IFE.
Height: 33 cm - weight 2611 grams

Bronze head with a serene expression on the face, and the streaks represent facial scarifications, which are characteristic of the
"classic" period of the art of Ife. The holes on the neck are to attach the mask to a wooden dummy for exhibitions to the public during the ceremonies. In the Yoruba tradition, the grooves on the neck, were considered a sign of beauty.

This bronze sculpture is of good quality and made using the "lost wax" method, where the mold is lost during the casting process.
