Lucien Nolens. Hasselt 1879-1953.
Belgian painter, lived and worked in Hasselt and made journeys to Paris, The Hague, and Amsterdam.
Studied at the academy of Hasselt and at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Brussels.
He was impressed by Impressionism but painted expressionist after 1920.
His subjects were eminently the landscape with its simple houses and village and city views, a single time with figures, in the typical environment of Kempen. Often worked in heavy, dark, colours sometimes with grim brush strokes.
Very nice painting, painted around 1930 with original frame and signed in the lower right.
