Ed Ruscha Dutch Details
11 × 38 cm, unfolded 75.5 cm
Sonsbeek '71, Arnhem.

In 1970 Ruscha was invitedto make a photo book for the Sonsbeek 71 exhibition in Arnhem. Wim Beeren chose the location, but left the details of the project to Ruscha. He began by photographing the façades of the houses along the canal, undoubtedly inspired by his panorama of Los Angeles, Every Building on the Sunset Strip (1966). This time the artist walked back and forth across the bridges of the canal, each time documented by six photographs, from a panorama to a close-up of the house or vice versa. The oblong format of the book, with each leaf being a gatefold showing the sequences of photographs on one bridge, is also unique in Ruscha's oeuvre. Only 200 copies of the edition of 3,000 have been preserved and therefore Dutch Details is the rarest of Ruscha's books. Artist’s book.

The exterior of the book shows signs of use and paper discolouration, the interior is good (see photos).
