Kazak, Shirvan gebied. - Bidkleed - 150 cm - 110 cm

Description
Kazak, Shirvan gebied. - Bidkleed - 150 cm - 110 cm
Wool on wool - Azerbaijan - Late 19th century

1880 - 1900.
Prayer rug with dating and letters.
The letters are not Farsi, Arabic, Afghan or Armenian.
I don't know Azeri.
Beautiful natural colour vegetable dyes used for the wool.

Such a rug does not belong on the floor, it was never intended as floor covering.
Hang it on the wall as an historical art object.

The ornament we see looks like a flower.
But it’s a highly simplified, stylized image of Simorgh the firebird. The three larger VVV forms at the mihrab are also Simorgh.
