François-Nicolas Martinet (1731-1800) - French engraver
He made the engraving of many natural history works, especially in ornithology.
He worked a.o.on the Ornithology by Mathurin Jacques Brisson (1760).
Very quickly, he engraved illustrations of birds for the works of the most influential French ornithologists of the 18th century. He works a.o. on the “Histoire naturelle des oiseaux” by Buffon, engraving 1,008 illustrations.
At the end of his career, very experienced in the engraving of birds, Martinet published his own ornithology book.
Martinet also participated in the Encyclopedia of Diderot and Alembert, contributing to 21 ornithological illustrations.
