Magnificent “large Galoa Mask” from Gabon
This type of mask is very rarely found, because of its headdress adorned with natural feathers.
Among the Galoa, masks are used for important initiatory rites, funerals or for the birth of twins...
This Galoa mask with graphic features is recognisable by the set of opposing triangles on the forehead and on the chin; half-closed eyes and a straight nose composing a perfect symmetry.
Splendid patina, cracks from age, beautiful facial expression with burgundy-black/blue/white coloured kaolin pigments.
Height: 49 cm including the headdress.
Width: 22 cm
Depth: 17 cm
From a private Belgian collection.
