2nd half 20th century - Good condition, used with some signs of wear

This type of mask is used by the Beete cult to honour the male gorilla, which is, in primitive mythology, considered to be the clan’s founding father, a mythical ancestor, and Lord of the Earth. In the Beete cult of the Kwele people, the gon mask embodies the primordial wild and untamed nature.
