Collected in the region of Béoumi near Bouaké, in Ivory Coast.
Mblo Baule mask. This kind of anthropomorphic Baule mask represents an important individual of the village. The facial features are very thin, conferring an impression of serenity to this piece. Scarifications on the cheeks, the temples, between the eyes, around the mouth and on the forehead. Finely carved braided hairstyle with a little bunch, there is also a small beard under the chin.
This kind of African Baule mask was used during entertainment and rejoicing festivities. This Mblo mask had a protective function.
This mask is representative of Baule art, with a lovely balance between the forms and the volumes, presenting finely carved details.
