A collection of six large hand-coloured prints of birds. (Wood) engraving or lithography from 19th or 20th century.
This print originates from ‘Nederlandsche Vogelen; volgens hunne huisdouding, aert, en eigenschappen beschreeven”, Amsterdam, 1770-1829 by C. Nozeman, M. Houttuyn and J.C. Sepp. This is a famous and important standard work in the Dutch ornithological; a first extensive study. The birds were shown in their natural environment, and at full size as much as possible.
These prints are certainly old, but considering the paper, are probably not from the original book from 1770. The mats are brand-new and acid-free. Some flaws: The 'Loxia' is somewhat askew in the mat.
Loxia, Curvirostra (kruisbek)
Turdus later Merula (merel)
Falco, Nifus (valk)
Anas Clypeata, Mas (slobeend)
Tringa, vaellus, Gavia, Vulgaris (kievit)
