Habsburg badge with prestigious inlay - Bicep Eagle and St. George - Marmo Rubbio and Marmo Rosso Verona - 20th century

Description
Habsburg badge with prestigious inlay - Bicep Eagle and St. George - Marmo Rubbio and Marmo Rosso Verona - 20th century
Russia

Beautiful Habsburg imperial coat of arms in Rubbio marble, entirely worked and carved by hand with Verona marble inlays. It depicts a double-headed eagle with open wings (a symbology taken from the coat of arms and the flag of the Holy Roman Empire). It comes from Russia, where it was hung on the wall of a prestigious private residence; it was part of a wide collection of Habsburg coats of arms.
Exceptional and unique workmanship, with remarkable care for the details, and animals anatomy, from the birds talons to the feathers, etc.
Charming decorations, best when hung on the wall.
It has a small inlay at the centre, typical of the eastern area, depicting St. George on horseback killing the dragon.

The double-headed eagle was adopted as imperial coat of arms for the first time by the Roman Emperor Constantine I, called the Great, and lasted as a coat of arms in the Eastern Roman Empire until the last dynasty of Byzantine emperors. Today, the Greek Orthodox Church uses the double-headed eagle as a heritage of the Byzantines. This coat of arms was later used by the Habsburgs, emperors of Austria and kings of Hungary, and by the Romanovs, czars of all Russia.
