HISTORY:
When the Austro-Hungarian empire collapsed, Charles I (1887-1922) abdicated and the Republic was proclaimed.
The defeated Austria, butchered by the Sèvres and Trianon treaties, suffered from galloping inflation between 1922 and 1924. The crisis of 29 (Black Thursday) began with the bankruptcy of an Austrian bank.
From 1932 onwards, the new strong man was Engelbert Dollfuss (1892-1934). He was murdered in 1934 by the Nazis. The Anchluss (the union of Austria and Germany) was conducted by Adolphe Hitler on March 12, 1938.
