18 kt. Mediterranean shell and gold - Pendant / Pin

Description
18 kt. Mediterranean shell and gold - Pendant / Pin
Size: 45 X35 mm - Total weight: 10 g

Magnificent pendant/brooch depicting the goddess Athena, made with hallmarked 18 kt gold trims, with a genuine oval cameo (dimensions 45 x 35 mm including frame), weight 10.5 g, engraved by hand on a Mediterranean shell. Made in Italy.
Date and origin: Early 20th century, Italy.
Condition: Very good - no internal lines can be seen when the cameo is back-lit, nor when the cameo is seen from the front. The left side of the frame is slightly bent. This is mentioned for the sake of accuracy; other than this, it is perfect. The sculpture on this cameo is extraordinarily detailed, the cutting lines are very clean and neat. Athena's face displays rare beauty and nobility; it shows the grace of a woman and the strength of a warrior. It is eye-catching thanks to its noteworthy details, and is clearly a piece for connoisseurs. In Greek mythology, Athena, the daughter of Zeus, was the goddess of war and of wisdom. She is almost always depicted with a helmet with a snake on top, or an owl, with the Aegis (a short fringed armature). The frame is simple and linear. There is a safety clasp. Gift packaging included. Express shipping, tracked and insured. Buyers outside the EU must take into account VAT and any customs duties they might have to pay.
