Mainline History: The American GM-EMD Series F-7 locomotives are diesel-electric locomotives of the F series from the manufacturer, the Electro-Motive Division (EMD), part of General Motors Diesel. The EMD F7 is the successor to the Series GM-EMD F3 locomotives that were used by various railway companies in the USA but also in other countries such as, for example, Canada. These locomotives were originally intended for hauling freight trains, but were then also used for hauling passenger trains such as the "Super Chief", "El Capitan" and the "Santa Fé".
