Mino Maccari - La famiglia

Mino Maccari - La famiglia
Oil on the table - Hand signed - 1980

He was born in 1898 in a family of the Sienese lower middle class. Outgoing and having a visual intelligence since he was a child, he had a facility with drawing. In 1928 he was the author of the small book “Il Trastullo di Strapaese”, published by Vallecchi. For his pictorial work, rich in fast brush strokes, the drawing combined with the vivid graphic lines of his engravings, he was considered by critics a complete artist. After WW2 he still continued to receive many praises, thanks to his prolific creative work, and to participate in solo exhibitions. In 1962 he was also given the presidency of the San Luca Academy in Rome and he obtained a solo exhibition at Gallery 63 in New York. Maccari, Sienese and great member of the ‘Contrada della Torre’, painted the ‘Palio’ from 16 August 1970. He died in 1989, when he was ninety years old.
