Kees Salentijn (Amsterdam, 1947)
He studied at the royal academy for the fine arts in Amsterdam, department of free painting. O.B. Kat was his most important teacher. Salentijn studied the paintings in the Prado in Madrid and stayed a few months in the company of a Berber family in Morocco. Salentijn travelled frequently to Spain in the 1980s. During this period he was involved with artists from various art movements, who had a more or less interest in unconscious creation instead of focusing on aesthetic depiction. He combined the cheerful CoBrA visual language with the influences of Spanish culture.
