I offer an antique sabre that was originally found as an artefact in Dworp, near the Haller forest. Although restoration work is certainly needed, it is an interesting object.
The sabre would be produced in 1814-1830 in Liège, analogous to an identical sabre that has been dated. Liège then produced for the Dutch army. The sword would have served in the cavalry or artillery brigades.
The handle is finished with a brass band.
The short length of the sabre indicates that it was shortened, presumably for use in infantry, a use that was not uncommon.
The sword is 70 cm long and the blade is sharp.
