Luri - Kelim - 240 cm - 140 cm

Description
Luri - Kelim - 240 cm - 140 cm
Wool on wool - Iran - Early 20th century

Luri Qashqai, a separate people – now semi-nomadic, with their own language which has a history dating back 5000 years.
Their priests were astronomers – the first scientists – and astrologers.
The interest in the universe can be seen in this kilim.
The three diamonds represent planets and the attached horizontal figures are rays. These are surrounded by stars, irregularly spaced.

This kilim originally, without being shortened, has a top that is different from the bottom. At the bottom, you can see a transversally woven-in pattern as a termination, where a zigzagging kilim weave is continued on the other side.

Naturally, plant-based dyes were used, indigo for the blue from the indigo plant.

Knotted on undyed goat wool warp threads.
