‘Jeunes filles au piano’ is a painting made by Auguste Renoir in 1892 during his ‘pearly’ period. It is on display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The painting depicts a family scene, with two young girls playing the piano. The two young girls already feature the carnal body of the women Renoir liked to paint. This painting is no longer pure Impressionism, but features the precise brushstrokes of the Ingres period. The clothes of the girls have not been embellished which makes this canvas look more real. This work was carried out in five different ways, because Renoir knew the French government wished to make an acquisition. Thanks to this canvas, Renoir was finally recognized!
