Small carved and painted wooden birds, which were once made in the Viechtau (district of Gmunden) by lumberjacks, are real treasures.
This cottage industry developed as early as the 15th century. In the last hundred years, the Viechtau goods experienced their high point. The craftsmen joined together to form a cooperative to which more than 100 people belonged.
For a good 30 years the cooperative was closed for good.
