Mortar (1) - Bronze

Description
Mortar (1) - Bronze
Netherlands - Early 19th century

A wonderful, heavy mortar made of cast bronze after a classic model, which is similar to the mouth of a canon.

Two bands with floral scenery on the belly, one with many birds. Above that an edge with the text: 'Heinrick ter Horst me fecit anno 1607'.

The mortar has widened base ring and has two lovely shaped ears with animal heads on both sides. This likely a mortar made in the 19th century after a 17th century example.

It is in very good condition and has a marvellous patina. It weighs no less than 4.3 kilograms and has an 18 cm diameter.

The lot will be properly packaged and shipped with insurance.

Photos are part of the description.
