Rare terracotta bust of an old man, made and signed by Arthur Craco (1869-1955). It is 22.5 x 15 x 16 cm. The piece is in uncleaned condition and has signs of age and use. The wall plate on the back is missing a piece as can be seen in the detail photos. It weighs approx. 2 kilograms.

Arthur Craco (1869-1955) was one of the most important innovators in ceramic art in Belgium. He was first active as sculptor and draughtsman. He made his first ceramic piece in 1896. He was awarded the ‘Grand Prix’ at the International Exhibition in Milan in 1906. He combines his talents as a sculptor and ceramist in a brilliant way and produces everyday pieces as well as works carved from stoneware and terracotta.
