Wolvecamps’ oeuvre is divided into different periods. Just after the war the work of Pablo Picasso influenced him greatly.
Later he became interested in the painter Joan Miró.
Kandinsky also had a lot of influence on his work.
After a Miró-like start, Wolvecamp made abstract-expressionist works in often dark tones and with thickly applied paint layers.
In his compositions (especially from 1955), you can see fantasy creatures and other figurative elements, making them reminiscent of the paintings of the Danish COBRA member Asger Jorn.
