FRENKEL was born in 1959 in Vitebsk, hometown of Marc CHAGALL, but grew up in Minsk, Belarus.
Like Samuel Veksler and Losif Perelman, he belongs to the Vitebsk surrealist school and seeks his inspiration in the style often referred to as "Judaïca", for its use of Jewish symbolism and customs.
Frenkel is one of the contemporary Russian artists, like Théo Tobiasse, who is destined for a great future and whose quote keeps rising at auctions such as in Paris (Hôtel Drouot), Enghien, London, Geneva and Amsterdam.
