Description:
a beautiful classical work of art ("werkplaats", mixed technique) by the Dutch artist Jacoba Surie (1879-1970). Simple frame with some signs of use. The work is signed on the bottom right. The work is on display at art dealership Martins in 2018 at 2nd Exloërmond and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Biography:
Jacoba Surie, also Coba Surie (5 September 1879 Amsterdam – 5 February 1970) was a Dutch painter. She belonged to the painter’s group the ‘Amsterdamse Joffers’. She was also a watercolourist, graphic artist, draughtsman and lithographer. She was educated at the Teekenschool voor den Werkenden Stand in Amsterdam and also at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. She was taught by Coba Ritsema and Joseph Mendes da Costa, among others. Surie was a member of several art companies. Surie worked as an artist in Amsterdam. She shared a home and a studio at the Keizersgracht with Ans van den Berg, who was also one of the Amsterdam Joffers. Surie’s work has been awarded on several occasions. She won the Willink van Collen Award in 1913 and the Gold Medal of Queen Wilhelmina in 1929. Work by Surie is located in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and the Gemeentemuseum Helmond.
