Colon statue - Baoule - Côte d'Ivoire

Colon statue - Baoule - Côte d'Ivoire
mid 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

36 x 6 cm.
Former Mafaya Gallery, Brussels.

Ancient statuette depicting a figure. The red patina illustrating the skin of colons, suggests that this is a portrait, which is quite rare in the Baule statuary.
Obvious care was brought by the sculptor, regarding the hairdo and the facial details.
This piece was probably not destined to ritual use, but is rather a testimony of influence, left by the presence of Westerners, in the artistic expression of this region.

Shipment within 24 working hours.
Track & trace included.
With acknowledgement of receipt.
