(*) José Pedro Croft (Porto, 1957) is one of the most influential Portuguese artists in the contemporary scene.
He studied and specialised in painting at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts. He is considered one of the renovators of Portuguese sculpture.

During the 1980s he begins to work in sculpture, characterised by doing it in stone with low reliefs and modelling. These works were intimately linked to death and the grave. Already in the 1990s, he would change his theme to everyday objects such as chairs or tables.

The artist has exhibited in galleries and museums in various cities in Europe and the world such as the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona or the Cibeles Centre for Culture and Citizenship in Madrid.

His work is part of international collections such as Centre Pompidou in París, la Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon or the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.
