Carel Bernardus (Charles) Dankmeijer was born on 8 April 1861 (Amsterdam); died on 11 March 1923 (The Hague). He called himself Charles and signed with Ch. Dankmeyer.
Dankmeijer was educated at the academies of Antwerp and Amsterdam, lived and worked in The Hague and for a long time on the Veluwe in Renkum and Oosterbeek. He gave shape to the world around him in a spontaneous, wild-impressionist canvasses with sparkling colours. A few times, he painted a still life or figure of his most cherished subject 'the landscape'.
Carel Bernardus (Charles) Dankmeijer is included in the very well-known Scheen: Scheen 1969, Vol. 1, p. 243. (as: Dankmeijer, Carel Bernardus (‘Charles’);*).
