Karel Arkema (1901-1965) - Groninger Ploeg - Verstedelijking

Karel Arkema (1901-1965) - Groninger Ploeg - Verstedelijking
Brush drawing with East Indian ink - Hand signed - 1959

A beautiful and large abstract work by the Groninger team painter Karel Arkema. It depicts a contrast of an old tree near a new apartment, and Karel Arkema saw the problem of urbanization as early as 1959, when small-scale forms of living were then repressed by massive forms of living as a residential flat. The contrast with black and white of the work gives the theme another dimension! Beautifully signed and dated.

It will be well packed and shipped with insurance via Post.nl or it can be picked up in Groningen.

Info: Karel Arkema.
Karel Arkema (1901-1964) was born in Appingedam.
After completing the crafts school, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Minerva in Groningen.

Karel originally painted in a realist-expressionist style, but nevertheless was influenced by the expressionism of ‘De Ploeg’. Works by his wife also clearly reflected this. Karel was in constant search of his own style.
