Beautiful and detailed map of Austria centred on the course of the Danube between Passau and Bratislava taken from the Atlas Minor published in Amsterdam in 1648 by Jannsonius.
In 1607 Jodocus Hondius published for the first time a pocket version of the Atlas by G. Mercator, naming it Atlas Minor. The maps are based in part on Mercator’s work of 1580-90 and partly on the maps of the same Hondius published in 1606. The enormous popularity of the reduced format and the lower price compared to folio atlases was reflected in an enormous editorial success and the publication of continuous updates and enrichments.
