GUM (born in 1976).
Rising French street artist, Gum is an heir of the street, evolving in this world with his sole weapon: the spray paint can.
Happy, bubbly, playful,... plastic art is the focal point of his approach and the common point of his favourite themes: advertising, consumption, over-consumption, sex.
In his paintings, Gum redefines the prefabricated codes of a society in agony. Irony is used to divert, upset, highlight the contradictions of the consumption society and social schizophrenia, where nothing is in its place. And as our earth is submerged plastic and waste so are his works. The plastic is melting because of global warming, while the world looks the other way. "We continue to polish the chandeliers of the boat that is sinking, we are attracted by the bling, the glittery, the inflatable, the flying, while bombs fall around us!"
Gum draws for children and talks to adults. These 2 worlds blend in a stressful way. ‘Young people want to become old and the elders want to be young. There are candies that look like drugs, and the drugs seem to be candy.
