Description
1970 Reserva 890, La Rioja Alta - La Rioja Gran Reserva - 1 Bottle (0.75L)
Red wine - Spain

1970 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890, very difficult to obtain only 25.000 Bottles, state of preservation Perfect

Elaboration: Performs fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, not exceeding 30 degrees. It remains for 8 months in old oak vats in which malolactic fermentation ends and to rest before being subjected to aging. Traded to American oak barrels of 225 liters made by the cooperage of the winery itself. It is subjected to aging for 84 months with a total of 12 manual rafts in the emblematic ship Vigier. Bottled directly from barrel, unfiltered. Production limited to 25.000 bottles of 75 cl.

Tasting note: Very light brown ruby color, medium-low layer, evolved. Orange and copper reflections, clean, without precipitates. Wide, covered edge, with a lot of thick sensation, thick, permanent tears.

The first sensations are of being before one of the great 890. Of an extreme fineness and great elegance, perfumed, intense, very very complex. Predominate initial aromas of withered flowers, rock tea, (overflows a tinge of balsam), infusion of hibiscus, which give way to macerated plums, cloves, laurel and a background of sage and toast of great quality. Extremely classic and mature at the same time. It does not stop to gain in expression and depth when going taking air. There are notes of cigar cava, Virginia pipe tobacco, old leather, toffee, vanilla. There is not the slightest appearance of fatigue. Orderly, precise. It smells like 890, completely recognizable and not repetitive.

The palate is austere, dry, compact, no pyrotechnics but full of certainties. It clings with nerve and crunch of vivid acidity, acidic tannins, vigor, drive, persistence, integrity ... Goes to its own, rocky, full of reduced and spicy fruit, toasted spices and an endless "mascletà" that leaves you dazed with a disturbing bittersweet, mysterious, like a "marmite". It does not detach in mouth hours. This 890 is one of the great "tapados" of Rioja that seems to have passed between us without making much noise but that is at the height of the best vintages of the winery. Nothing has to envy the 89 or 55 (the one now, not the one that will become) and seems to have enough distance to crown the highest peaks. How the 890 seventies shine!
