In 1946 he got Hugo Claus from school, after which they lived together for a while on a farm in Sint-Martens-Leerne. From 1949 to 1983 he was a teacher of plastic education. From 1965 he dedicated himself fully to his painting, and this within the climate of the “New Vision”. This innovative view of his childhood friend Roger Raveel and some young artists from the region of the Leie, showed many similarities to the pop art. With the purification of the images from his familiar environment, Antoon De Clerck focussed the attention on certain parts.
